Friday

....coming soon

(link) Midori | 0 comments | 4:33 PM

Late night randomness...
Xinlei: I'm going to have kids and give them to you.
Me: Why?
Xinlei: So your vagina won't collapse.
Me: What????
Xinlei: I'm just looking out for your vagina!

Xinlei is so weird....!

But keep in mind that this was well into the early AM hours haa.

For some reason Xinlei, Styna and I were talking about childbirth. I think it stemmed from the topic of our hips (or lack of hips) and whether we were going to be able to go through with natural childbirth or not. Xinlei then told us about how some womens' vaginas collapsed after natural childbirth and...yuck.

I don't even know why we were talking about that =X

Anyway, an account of the remainder of my trip will come later today :)

First day of classes today...I only have one :D

Thursday

coffee delivered at eight-thirty sharp

Since we had gone to bed so early the night before, we were up before our coffee was delivered at 8:30. At nine we went down for breakfast. There was fresh fruit laid out for us (melon and pineapple) and yogurt. Mmmm. We sat down and they took our juice orders (apple for me, orange for him) and then brought us hash browns and ham and cheese omlettes, cooked by the B&B owners themselves.

During breakfast, Kit asked Vicki about the various trails on the other side of the lake. We decided on the Cougar Crest trail (moderate to difficult) which was roughly 4 miles round trip, 5 if you include the trail from the parking lot to the trail.

two views from the trail

It's safe to say that I was dying by the middle of the uphill portion of the trail. I'm so horribly out of shape it's embarassing. Even more so considering there was an elderly couple we ran into on the way up that didn't even seem to be breaking a sweat. Punks.

proof i made it to the top!

We were going to try to find a place to splash around in the lake, but the place we went was kind of...slimy...so we just went back to our room. Kit crashed and I showered off. After he took a bath we went downstairs to try and decide on a place to eat. Being exhausted (and hungry) we chose a small coffee shop nearby.

cheap and satisfying, just the way i like it :)

The place was really cheap and gave us more food than we could eat. It was kind of hole-in-the-wall-ish but the food tasted mighty good after that monster hike (monster hike by my standards anyway).

birds-eye view
Made some hot choclate and popcorn when we got back. Sat down and watched a chick flick (my pick =X) then cleaned up and went to sleep...early...again =P

:)

Wednesday

bye bye newport

I left for Kit's place at around nine Wednesday morning. I didn't have to be at his place until ten, but I wanted to have a full tank of gas before we left. Anyway, figures that by the time I got there, he wasn't even done packing.

that's all the clothing he took

We left about a quarter after ten, stopping by a bakery to get croissants, coffee, and these french cream puff things...I know the name but I'm not going to embarass myself trying to spell it.

We ended up taking a wrong turn into Running Springs somewhere along the way, but other than that the trip went smoothly. He's normally a speed devil, but on the way up he let almost everyone pass him at the turnouts.

It was around 12:30 when we got there; check in time was at two. After finding the place, he drove around looking for a place where we could access the shore of the lake. We drove into a marina (the Big Bear Marina, I think) and parked and chilled there for a bit.

on a bench close to shore

Kit wanted to feed the ducks. All we had were potato chips, but that turned out not to be a problem. As soon as the ducks heard the rustle of the bag they started following us, seriously. I was afraid they were going to start attacking us, but there was actually only one duck that would actually get that close to us. So close, in fact, that we could hand-feed it.

We left the marina a few minutes before two (I had to pee) to go check in to the B&B. We went to the office where the owners, Mark and Vicki, checked us in and took our morning beverage request . The tiny office smelled of their yappy little dog, which I don't think liked us very much. Anyhow, Mark showed us the lodge and gave us the door code and our key.

lazy bum ;P well...then again he did drive the whole way up

First thing Kit did upon arriving was climb into bed to take a nap. I decided to look around and *ahem* take photos of everything in the room. One of the novelties of the room was the little bedside journal that was on the nightstand. It seems that most people who had occupied that particular room (Butch and Sundance) left a short message in the journal regarding the wonderful hospitality and accomodations. There was only one entry that was worth mentioning really.

i just totally violated someone's privacy with this pic

I really wanted pizza, so we went out to go pick up a pie. He was thinking of doing some fishing the next day, so he wanted to go looking for a sporting goods store. Turns out everything in Big Bear closes at five, so although we did find a store it was closed. Or shut. Whatever.

shut?

We went to Rick's Pizza. Can't say much about the service, the cashier seemed kind of indifferent to us, but the pizza was mighty good. Kit ate a slice as soon as we got to the car and made a huge mess of himself.

the television is scaring me...

Took the rest of the pizza back to the lodge and watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid on the lodge VCR in the living room. They had a decent selection of videos, including all the namesakes of the different rooms in the lodge.

After the movie, we cleaned up and headed back to our room. I took a bubble bath in the claw-footed tub before going to bed early.

rubber duckie was included :)

September 17, 2003

So I lied, I am going to post once more before I leave. I'm at Kit's place right now waiting for him to finish packing. The contrast between our luggage is so classic. He has a tiny pile of folded clothes and underwear wheras I have a stuffed duffel bag, bookbag, and purse.

What can I say, I like to be prepared =P

September 16, 2003

Just got back from Kit's place. He thinks I look icky. I feel pretty icky. I have a bandaged finger that still hurts and that I can't really bend, I feel greasy, and I have insect bites all over my right leg, including a series of six that kind of remind me of the island chain of Hawaii (speaking of which, Xinlei's boyfriend is in Hawaii right now, that lucky bastard).

I need to pack for our Big Bear getaway. We're going to be staying at the Eagle's Nest Lodge for a couple of nights. He's paying for the whole thing, it's an early birthday present for me since things are probably going to be pretty hectic during the school year. Anyway, being poor college students, we opted for one of the guest rooms instead of a cottage suite which means that we're going to be sharing a common area. However, we're one of only two couples occupying a guest room those nights, so things look good :)

I need to go pack and shower. I haven't showered in 36 hours--I wanted to dry out the cut ;P I feel so gross.

I doubt I'll be updating tomorrow, so see you when I get back! :)

First things first...

Happy Birthday Sarabean!

Now...

Yesterday was one of those really bad days...and once again it started with my crackheaded alarm not going off. Sooo I was a half hour late to work.

After work I went to buy books, freakin' A those things are expensive. I saw Henry in the parking booth thing with a bunch of other parking people. Anyway.

That evening I was going to make okonomiyaki (mmm). I was having trouble cutting the cabbage so I was pressing really hard on the knife. I guess my finger was in the way, so when the knife slammed through the cabbage it slammed into my finger.

Thank god we don't know how to sharpen knives.

Anyway, it took a while for the pain to set in. I ran the finger under water but it wouldn't stop bleeding. Lucky for me Styna's cousin was there to fetch me bandaids and stuff and calm me down a bit. Yeah, I was kinda shaken and slightly panicky, but the stupid thing wouldn't stop bleeding.

Blah. So it bled for a few hours, and was still bleeding a little when I went to the on-campus health center this morning, but just a little. I got it dressed and was advised to not get it wet or do anything that might open the cut or get it dirty.

I'm such a klutz, especially in the kitchen.

I'm the only one I know who has ever been cut with a plastic butter knife. Or a spoon.

And now I'm having trouble typing. Ring finger is doing double duty right now, since my pinkie is out of comission for the time being.

I'm at work and I'm hungry. I think I'm going to read about food.

September 12, 2003

The last forty-eight hours has consisted of nothing but tortilla chips with nacho "cheese", starbucks bottled fraps (lowfat mocha :D), water, and tylenol.

Oh, and a Snapple iced tea.

This does not make for a very happy girl. I've been reading Kristin's journal at work and I'm literally drooling (no worries, I'm very good at containing it). I have a ridiculous craving for some Korean tofu and beef, thanks to coworker Andrew, who by the way thinks I'm a freak for keeping an online journal.

Mm, throw in the fact that I only got between one and two hours of sleep and woke up with a horrible headache, not migraine-horrible like my poor roomie's headaches, but one of those headaches that reaches from your eyes to your temples to your gums.

It was a bad night. Something I'd never want to go through again.

And let's just leave it at that.

I could probably use some chicken and waffles right now. Or Korean tofu.

40 minutes until I get off....

...of work you sickos ;)

September 08, 2003

Oh yeah...

Okay so I was at work surfing a back issue about webdesigners vs. w3b d3ziners (or something to that effect) Kaliber10000, a design site, this afternoon. So anyway, I clicked to the end where there were a few links connected to the person who had done the issue. Two of the links led to defunct sites and the third one led to a fricken PORN SITE and when I tried to close the window another fricken window popped up just as my supervisor walked by.

FEEKIN FEEK.

He didn't say anything but FEEK. I'm pretty sure he saw.

Maybe he liked it.

Mmm I could really go for some ravioli in red sauce mmm...

That restaurant that we went to (the Italian place we went to last last Saturday) ended up being in Marina del Rey and not Santa Monica as I had previously thought. Anyway, the wait was long but once we got in it was all good. There was a self-serve Chianti dispenser which I thought was pretty cool. $4.50 a glass, help yourself, honor system :) It was one of those places where you can draw on the table with crayons, which we did. Of course, after a waiter came by and spilled water on a red crayon drawing it got a little messy. The garlic bread was to die for, seriously. There are people walking around with large bowls of bread that'll stop by and refill your bread plate if they see that it's empty.

Service was a little slow, but I guess that's understandable considering the restaurant was packed. I'd mos' def go again. Anyone up for it? :) C&O Trattoria. Yermmy yermmy.

After Stynalicious came home I gave up on my homework and decided to decorate some pictures of Kiefer Sutherland a.k.a. Xinlei's personal god using a few post-its and a pen. After that I decided to take pictures of my beautiful roommate with her beautiful computer.

Did I mention that she brought back the tastiest bar of strawberry chocolate known to man? It's 99¢ from Mitsuwa. Ohhhhh lord is it good :D

I have a final next week but I'm so achy and out of it that all I can really do is stare at the computer and let my eyes glaze over.

Computer and TV screens have been giving me headaches lately.

Went to The Loft in Cerritos yesterday with Kit. Lucky for me Lina was there to play gracious hostess (she works there) and hook us up with a lil' somethin' ;) Lauren from OCBC also works there, and I talked to her for a few minutes. Mmm hmm. Anyway, we both ordered combo plates. He got Island Style fried chicken and Korean beef, and I got the fried chicken and chicken-katsu. We also go spam musubi, which he's developed a taste for ever since OCBC's obon. After dinner Lina made us a strawberry shaved ice with ice cream on the bottom. We weren't able to finish it since we were both stuffed after dinner. Kit wanted to know what kind of ice cream was used in it, he said it was good. Yeap.

Man I'm spaced out. And hungry. Maybe I'll go eat my doggy bag. Yermmy yermmy.

Fell asleep on Kit's couch for 1-2 hours last night...from the West Wing to the Simpsons if I remember correctly. Anyway, I woke up with a blanket over me. I think it was is older sister who had brought it down for me, but I was half-asleep so I don't really remember...

Okay I just filled out my avaliability sheet for work. I realized that on my birthday, I'm going to have class from eleven AM until nine PM. Thursdays are my long days. I don't even have time to go out to dinner...blargh. Oh well.

I have my math final next week. I'm not ready.

I'm going to be at work for quite some time today. I should do homework, but I highly doubt that it'll take me seven hours to do. Time for some major catching up online.

I feel boring.
