If only I could turn back time

If you were able to go back in time and do something over again, would you? If you could go back in time and tell yourself something, would you?

I think I would. How about you?

I'm all growed up now (okay well almost)

In high school and college my goal had been to gain financial independence and live on my own. Which I have done. At the time I thought that doing so would make me feel like an actual adult, but for whatever reason I don't =\ I don't think that will change until I actually change my permanent address--i.e. when I buy a home. Looks like goal number two is to have enough for a down payment before I turn thirty...

...and to have my own washer and dryer...!

Okay, so Vox may become the exception to my one-blog rule, simply because of the Question of the Day it features on its website.

Here's the link to my Vox

yesterday = suck

Yesterday I called in sick. It was the first time I've ever taken an entire day off of work. I've taken a couple of half days for vacation, but this is the first time I did not go into the office at all.

I have since concluded that I hate calling in sick. I spent most of the day lying down and drinking lots of water. I was bored out of my mind.

Today my ears still feel a bit plugged, but overall I feel much better.

On another note, on the way to work I heard on the radio something about a survey in which people were asked what they felt was the most annoying/painful sound. Tied for third was "crying babies". I'd like to expand that to include all young children. Word up.

happy birthday to IRV who is entering his lovely late twenties (according to my definition) today and to chris who is turning twenty-one.

is it just me or is it scary that the freshmeats from our senior year are all turning 21 this year?

San Francisco Day 1

(l) in the airplane (r) on airbart

April and I took a weekend trip to San Francisco about a week ago. It was off to a bit of a rocky start, what with April's migraine the day before we were supposed to leave and the taxi I'd called for showing up early and leaving before the time I had asked him to come. Plus I was worried that we were running late (combination of me having to work until a certain time and the taxi ditching us) so yeah I was a bit frazzled...but it's all good. I just drove us to the airport and parked in the parking structure and when we got inside the terminal we discovered that there were hardly lines for both check-in and security. Anyway, it had been a long work week so I got an in-flight chardonnay to help me unwind ;)

I think our flight was actually a bit early (something that never happens with Southwest, which is what I usually fly). Since we were sans car we relied on AirBART/BART to get us to San Francisco. That is one thing that I really like about the Bay Area...Bay Area Rail Transit (Big Ass Railroad Tracks). Super convenient and super easy to figure out (even I was able to make sense of BART map). We really need something like that down here.

We got off at the Powell station which was about three blocks from our hotel (Maxwell). The walk wasn't too bad (I was able to do it in heels) and it wasn't nearly as cold as I had anticipated--not to say that it wasn't freaking cold ;P.

We checked in and settled in to our room. It was pretty small, but all good. There was some print of an older, heavyset woman who appeared to be feeling her own boob hanging on the wall next to April's bed =\ I wonder if I have a picture of it somewhere...

Anyway, April was hungry so we went down to look for a place to eat.

(l) the hot tea was so good after walking around outside (r) thrilled to be having my picture taken

We went to Sushi Boat which was just across the street (or something like that). We ordered a roll to split, udon (for her) and agedashi tofu (for me...I wasn't especially hungry).

After dinner we went back to the hotel and got ready for bed. We were tired. I think we're getting old.

>:(

HumanForSale on why males are worth more than females:
Do men deserve to earn more? Because they deserve to, argues Warren Farrell in his book Why Men Earn More: The Startling Truth Behind the Pay Gap -- and What Women Can Do About It a contrarian challenge to feminist conventional wisdom. Men work longer hours at more dangerous and disagreeable jobs. They more readily accept night shifts, hardship postings to Alaska and entrepreneurial risks. Men get in-demand degrees in engineering, while women get degrees in French literature. Female librarians earn less than garbagemen, not because of discrimination, but because so many applicants compete for the safe, clean, comfortable, convenient, fulfilling jobs women prefer.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHH

Tips in SF

tip signs in (l) suite 181 and (r) red door cafe

So yes, I was up in SF last weekend and had omega fun to the omega ton just chilling. Anyway, I posted two tip pictures. We didn't tip the coat check girl because I think she was on crack or something. She was barely paying attention to people trying to get their coats and brought us the wrong hanger.

We had checked our luggage to the at the hotel so we could go get brunch without lugging our stuff around (we had already checked out of our room). The bellhop (an older man) brought us our bags when we came back and went back to his station without a word. In the meantime, April, Xinlei and I were frantically digging around our wallets looking bills smaller than a twenty. None of us seemed to have enough ones (used them all at the strip clubs the night before) but I finally found a $5 bill which I gave to the bellhop. He suddenly became much friendlier and much more talkative, asking us where we were flying out of, asking if we needed a cab, and after finding out that we were going to BART telling us a more efficient way of walking to the station. Amazing how much difference a standard tip can make.

Anyway, I'll post more pictures later if I can find the time to :p. I think I have nearly 200 pictures from last weekend.

(oh and btw i was totally kidding about the strip club thing)

on our way to lunch...

virginian coworker: hey, if an owlbear and a dickfor got into a fight, who would win?
korean coworker (he knows the joke): that depends on the level of the dickfor.

about a minute later...

hungry coworker: wait a second...what the hell is an owlbear?!

RAAAAAAAAAGHADLKFJ

the craving for korean tofu is getting FIERCE

even though it's not so cold anymore...

the reason it's so good when it's cold? because it's hot, steamy, and just a little spicy (at least, the way i order it). the soft texture and soupiness and tastiness (yum) make it sort of a comfort food for me.

i just made myself hungry :(
